Faxon Firearms 20" GUNNER 5.56 NATO Rifle-Length 4150 Nitride / Melonite Barrel - 15A58R20NGQ

The Gunner profile is a blend of two of the best performing profiles of all time, Gov’t and Pencil.
Proving that every once and awhile, the Government can do something right, the Gunner’s profile from the extension to the gas block mimics that well-known taper. From there, innovation takes over and the Gunner moves to a .625 gas block journal and our famed pencil profile out front.
Removing the weight from the front of the barrel ensures maximum versatility and keeps material to the rear to maximize heat resistance and mitigate whip.
Faxon Firearms barrels are the pinnacle of value. Manufactured 100% in-house from cradle-to-grave, these barrels are fully stress relieved, air-gauge tested, and 11-degree target crowned to ensure superior accuracy.
Quality is imbued into our barrels from the start. We start with the best materials, either certified 4150 Mil-Spec steel or 416-R Stainless. From there, each barrel goes through a battery of tests at each operation until finished in Nitride and final inspected. All barrels are individually checked for headspace by precision custom hardened gauges.

Great Reviews. Helped me with my A1 build!
I wanna first thank Chris S. and James U. Your review of barrel helped me decide on pencil vs. Hbar, and I am going to go with this barrel. I’m on my 4th grounds-up build. I was a Combat Medic then a Spec. Ops. Medical Sergeant (18-D) in U.S. Army, so my trigger time was there, but my MOS clearly was to save lives. But being with Rangers N SOAR, once retired I began shooting daily, then built an A2 from a kit. I love it, but the Hbar is really heavy, making rifle unbalanced to me. I just snatched an M16A1 upper (with a built in carry handle, so no flat top on this one), and I want it to mimic the REAL A1 style, which is important to me on this one. So the two reviews above hit the high points of barrel: more “meat” under handguard, but a pencil-like barrel protruding, with the strength and accuracy needed to use for my purposes. So, thanks again, and I appreciate the reviews and their often professional experience from smithy’s and builders alike, people who take this “hobby” to a higher level (as do I). God Bless America and be with you all. MSG. G.S., U.S. ARMY (Ret.). ✝️👨👩👧👦🪖.
One I got was horribly corroded, Faxon made it right
I got this barrel and due to a number of factors prior to getting it, the barrel, especially after the gas block was heavily corroded. AR15 discounts did not respond, Faxon did, and they shipped me a new bbl no issue. Great company. I was not able to evaluate this bbl as faxon did not have 20" on hand so they sent me an 18" at my request. The gas port was good, so shouldn't overly gas and with a Superlative Arms Adjustable Gas Block only had a 0.001 clearance which is good. The crown was basically non-existent so anyone who has the tools and time can easily make a small 11 degree crown. The chamber was a little rough, nothing too concerning, but would need a few 100 rounds or so to smoothen out. The bbl did gauge as a Wylde chamber. I recommend faxon over BA and some other brands as the company stands behind their products and Martin is great customer service too.
