The Dirty Bird Flat Wire Spring will have your AR running at optimum performance and outlasting a standard music wire carbine buffer spring. This spring can be used in both carbine and standard length stocks. Constructed from 17-7 Stainless Steel, this buffer spring is crafted for extra abuse and maximum toughness. Finally, a coating of Sandstrom 28A is applied to the spring to achieve peak performance.
What is Sandstrom 28A?
- Sandstrom 28A is a laquer-like coating that is used by the Department of Defense.
- This low-friction coating can be used in adverse conditions from -325 degrees to 300 degrees, when load pressure is over 100,000 PSI, and still function properly.
- Sandstrom 28A is virtually unaffected by corrosion, acids, oils and degreasers.

A good universal upgrade
Flatwire springs are a great upgrade compared to normal springs, and that rule still applies to this piece. Compared to a similar normal spring, this is quieter, longer and seems to smooth out recoil noticeably. I have not had the chance to test it against a Tubb flatwire spring, but I imagine the difference between this and his more expensive spring is not nearly as much as the mil-spec spring. A good note is to lubricate the spring with a dry silicone-based lubricant (in my case, Otis dry lube) before installing it in the rifle. It will quiet it further and also help prevent any binding. Do this with your magazine springs as well!

Installation of the spring was a little tedious since the spring is almost double the length of a standard milspec carbine spring but does fit after working it in a bit.. Annoying "Twang" is near non-existent which was my motive to purchase. Cycles during dry fire just fine, haven't taken to the range yet so can't speak for any mitigation of felt recoil for overgassed rifles.. Buy this spring, not the Geissele Super 42, does the same thing for less than half the cost.
USFlat wire spring
The spring is much smoother and uniform in motion, than a round coil spring. This is my third one and am happy with them all. It's like replacing a broke shock on your car, much smoother action!
