Decent but B5 CAR are a little better made
I just bought this and a B5 CAR-1482 in OD Green for some future builds, and have had opportunity to compare them. PROS The NBS one is decently made, solid, not cheap plastic. For the sale/intro price in July 2024 its a good value. Spring on the latch is nice and stiff. CONS Cosmetic: Some places on the mold around the rear of the vertical component (where the lower sling slot is) have a number of shiny spots. Cosmetic/Functional: The inverted teardrop shape at the very bottom of buttplate is quite a bit thinner and pointy at the very bottom on the NBS than the B5 one, which is more rounded and gradual in curve . Also, the checkering is more subtle/flatter on the NBS buttplate. Much deeper/more pronounced on the B5. These things may not matter to everyone. Just pointing them out. Functional: This NBS CAR buttstock will not snap/lock into the most forward position on my carbine buffer tube (fully retracted against receiver) but the B5 one snaps/drops into the first position just fine. Tested both on an original LWRC 6-pos carbine buffer tube which I believe is mil-spec, not commercial sized. OVERALL The recommend YES is for folks looking to save some clams on a more budget model. Its a decent value and hard to criticize for the July 2024 intro price. It's decently made and bet it would go the distance with typical wear and tear. I just like the look, feel, and function of the B5 better.
Meh...
Quality seems OK for what it is...a cheap XM-style stock. But what wasn't readily apparent from the pics (I notice the pic of the right side was angled so as to downplay the marking) is the "MADE IN U.S.A." billboard on the side. Functionally, I'm assming it works fine (never mounted it on an extension)...but visually it misses the mark.
