USGambled on NBS M-16 USGI Recoil Butt Pad - & Won.
Since I have a telescoping M4-type stock on hand, purchased in a group buy from Brownells a couple years ago, along with a lower completion kit, I found I needed an LOP extension. New to all things ARF, I bought-in on this group buy without any awareness the telescoping M4-type carbine stock setup has a shorter LOP than the old M-16. And I have very long arms. Bummer. Not wanting to invest in another stock yet, fixed or otherwise, but preferring to salvage what I have, I decided this pad would be a cheap gamble, and won. It’s only about 5/8” longer when installed than the LOP on my “S&W” branded stock & carbine tube, but I’ll take whatever extension I can get. What I was worried about was how sloppy the fit might be. Note: Many vendors call this a 1” extension pad; it is NOT. Factor in your butt plate nestles inside this taco so it nets about 5/8” extension. Now bear in mind many producers make these USGI-style M4 polymer stocks, & they are branded with a dozen or more names. Therefore some variation may be found in dimensions, mil-spec or not, through error or deviation. My stock is not your stock, so my review is on my own combination. YMMV. The fit exceeded all my expectations, No slop at all. A factory pairing could not be any better. So if you want to finish your commonly hated telescoping M4 stock, with a non-slip surface, this is a cheap fix. And it increases the footprint too, which should help dissipate recoil, if you are such a runt that you think a 5.56 kicks hard. And thankfully this part is not labeled “SNIPER” on the back, some are, which I don’t want.
