When you need a little more zoom than the 1-6
The Strike Eagle 1-8x from Vortex really sets the bar for a great low power variable optic. It does pretty much everything the 1-6x does but with a little more zoom. First off, Vortex’s warranty is probably the best warranty from any company selling any product ever. A company that stands behind their products with that kind of warranty gets my attention. This optic is a great mid price optic for an AR15. At 1x you can basically run it both eyes open almost like a red dot sight. At 8x, the eye box does start to get a little bit smaller, but still very usable. This type of optic works great on a rifle length (16”-18”) AR15 where you may doing some short and medium range shooting. Now, is this worth the extra price over the 1-6x? IMO, not really. The eye box at 7x, 8x is so small and hard to view that it’s not the easiest to use. If this was the same price as the 1-6, I’d says get it. But it’s not worth the increase in price to me.
