OK for plinking
The excellent customer support of both AR15Discounts and NcStar solved my problem. The replacement sight have the laser diode at 10 o'clock position which no longer blocks the iron sight picture. The dot is now mostly due to the astigmatism in my aging eye, and left/right eyes have different dot scattering as the AR coating of the replacement unit is obviously improved.

Mine could be defective
1. I can live with 1.7" high co-witness, even though I don't like it. The position of laser diode blocked lower portion of the view when co-witnessing with iron sights. 2. Mine could be defective. The red/blue dot exhibits multi-path internal reflections. The Anti-Reflection coating is nonexistent. As a result, it does not present a single round dot, but a few dots in the sight picture. This bars the sight for even medium range use. 3. Have not gotten a chance to use the sight on the range due to the corona situation.
