I bought it for the parts.
I wanted pretty much everything but the barrel. It was on sale at the time and not a bad deal so yes I actually bought it to use the individual pieces. SOLGW is oversized on the lugs of the upper. Once separated (from the barrel) I found the upper receiver would not fit into either stamped lower I had. It did fit as you might see on YouTube perfectly with an AERO lower (I mean perfectly, no play at all and some force required to separate the two). Just a note the upper and barrel were thermal fit so it required heating and a wood dowel to remove. When I install another barrel it will require heating as well. I really like the upper and if I ever decide to build another SBR (trying to avoid that as I hate giving the Fed $200 each time) SOLGW is what I would use (except you can’t find just the stripped upper currently, again I wanted the parts though). I was also pleased with the gas block. It fit the old barrel and the barrel I put it on incredibly tightly. The original barrel was dimpled for one of the set screws and both had red Loctite or an equivalent (again I had to heat the barrel to get both set screws out). The fit and finish on this complete upper we’re actually pretty impressive. I have worked on several different brands (Stag, Aero, Bushmaster and BCM) and the was the best fit complete upper I have ever worked on. I can’t speak with any experience about their rails ( this upper comes without a rail or hand guard) but I was actually very impressed. The only minor complaint is it does not come with the flash suppressor as is pictured, mine had a protective red cover to protect the threads.
