Sometimes, when you are building a new AR platform, you don’t want the barrel to be too lightweight, but you don’t want it to be too heavy either. Sometimes, you just need it to ride that line between light and heavy. The Medium Profile barrel is your solution. The ODIN Works 10.5 416R Stainless Steel Medium profile barrel comes with the well-known .223 Wylde chamber, so you can feed it a diet of both .223 and 5.56 NATO ammo. It has a carbine length gas system, M4 feed ramps for reliability, a 1:8 twist rate with button-cut rifling (1:8 twist means the bullet makes one full rotation every 8 inches while inside the barrel), 1/2×28 thread pattern to fit standard AR-15 muzzle devices, and a medium profile barrel. Generally a lightweight barrel is about .625 diameter in the middle, whereas the medium profile barrel is .750 diameter in the middle… giving the medium profile barrel about .125 more thickness. This hand-lapped barrel weighs in at just 1.23 pounds and comes with an adjustable Stainless Steel Gas Block that allows you to tune your AR for various types of shooting.

NOTE: The .223 Wylde is a mix of the 5.56×45 NATO external chamber measurements and lead angle, but also utilizes the tighter .224 free bore diameter of the .223 Remington cartridge for better accuracy potential. As we all know, you could not fire 556 NATO ammo in a .223 Rem chamber due to the pressure differential and slight chamber size differences. The .223 Wylde solves this issue and gives the shooter the best of both worlds.
NOTE: 416R is a Crucible brand steel and it was formulated specifically for barrels. Most types of steel, including normal 416SS are not designed to be used in freezing temperatures. But this steel was designed to operate in arctic temperatures, up to -40F. 416R also has greater accuracy potential than normal 416SS and 4150 steel due to its ability to take highly defined rifling and machining cuts. 416R Stainless steel has a 12-14% Chromium content. Generally any steel with 13% or better Chromium is considered Stainless, so 416R could be considered non-stainless depending upon batch. Corrosion is possible with almost any steel, stainless or otherwise, just be sure to take good care of your barrel.

Great Barrel for AR Pistol or SBR
The barrel is precision made, well packaged and ready to install on your upper. The included gas block works fine if you have a limited variety of ammo. Once adjusted it will freeze after a few hundred rounds, so you can tune to your build and ammo, but regular adjustments are not what it’s made for. Upgrade the gas block if that’s your need. The muzzle threads were perfectly cut and I installed an A2 birdcage - nobody wants a nasty brake on a short barrel. Headspace was spot on, wylde chamber handles 223 & 5.56 ammo and the bore scope looks great. I did have to replace the first barrel I received, due to a bore defect, but AR15Discounts customer service team were great and that was easy. Accuracy testing on a rest at 100yds with a 1-4x Vortex PST gave multiple groups under an inch. With 55gn LC it is a bit over an inch. My 77gn OTM hand loads were 0.75”. This 10.5” is loud. It’s fun at the range and nimble to use in tight spaces (home defense). But at over 180dB you need to use earplugs and earmuffs at the range and I would not shoot this indoors unsuppressed, or you will instantly have permanent hearing loss.
