My first BCG was a Nickel-Boron coated one, which I've more of less stuck to since. I had always been told it's the latest and greatest, and, honestly, since where I live it is winter for over half the year, it seemed sensible. (You can run nickel boron dry, and not have to worry about how the weather/cold affects lubricant.) I was told I should give the standard phosphate and chrome BCG a try. I have yet to try it in the winter, but I can tell you I've been very pleased with its performance so far during the summer months. Why? Sometimes I go on range trips with "high volume" shooters and putting several hundred rounds through a platform is not unheard of, and it also means buying lots of cheap ammo. Some of this cheap ammo can foul up the action in 200-300 rounds - I saw fouled up, but one of my Nickel Boron bcg will have shed any lubricant I've put on it, and the carbon buildup would start to hinder functions. The last range trip, I put 500 rounds through my platform, and the BCG still had lube, and was functioning flawlessly. Winter will be the ultimate test, but I think I'm converted to the old ways.
