Good product - if you understand what you are buying
The item description for this buffer weight is awful, there is conflicting info given in the Q&A section and when I reached out to customer service they gave me bad info as well. That being said, this is not a bad product. I just don't think AR15Discounts understand what they are selling. I purchased this and upon receiving it removed the roll pin to brake it down and find out exactly what it was. This is a STEEL body buffer housing weighing ~2.4oz which contains a long, single piece STEEL weight weighing ~2.1oz. The weight can slide back and forth so this buffer DOES provide a dead-blow effect and should be suitable for FRTs. A standard mil-spec H2 buffer uses an aluminum housing weighing ~0.8oz and contains three shorter weights: one steel and two tungsten. Essentially, this buffer from AR15Discounts maintains the same overall weight as a mil-spec H2 buffer, but places the additional weight into the buffer housing rather than the internal weights. This is a fine design and the only real downside is that you cannot disassemble it for parts. I would not hesitate to purchase this product again now that I know what it is. AR15 Discounts should update their description though.
USGood, but not what I expected
TL;DR - it works, but not if you want to break it down for parts. This buffer is what it says - if you just need an H2 weighted buffer for tuning in recoil or an FRT, I'd expect this would be fine. The weight inside does slide a bit to give a dead-blow effect. HOWEVER, it's not built like your average H2 buffer. The body is magnetic (steel, I assume) and the weight inside is one long piece, not three all steel, and slightly smaller diameter than other carbine buffer weights I own, so trying to put the buffer weights inside this buffer body won't work. Since this was so cheap, I had wanted to combine weighs with an h1 buffer I already owned to make an h3 and a regular carbine, but this didn't work for that.
