Faxon’s pencil barrels are renowned for their lightweight performance. Fully stress relieved, we carefully designed the barrel’s taper to remove weight while maintaining performance. The result is the lightest barrel in the industry – and one we are fully confident to put our Faxon shield on.
Faxon’s .308 barrels feature 1/10 twist rifling for full stabilization across all common .308 loadings. Our barrels are chambered to .308 Winchester SAAMI specification for maximum versatility. All our barrels are manufactured 100% in-house from cradle-to-grave, these barrels are fully stress relieved, air-gauge tested, and 11 degree target crowned to ensure superior accuracy.
Quality is imbued into our barrels from the start. We start with the best materials, either certified 4150 Mil-Spec steel or 416-R Stainless. From there, each barrel goes through a battery of tests at each operation until finished in Nitride and final inspected. All barrels are individually checked for headspace by precision custom hardened gauges.

Build an LAR under 8 pounds
Faxon barrels are the best bang for your buck in the AR Barrel world. I have found them to be very accurate and reliable. The QPQ finish is impeccable. I've seen more AR's than I can remember, across a wide spectrum of prices and no one has a better barrel finish than Faxon's. Most of the high-end stuff is equal, but not better. All other things being equal I'd prefer cold hammer forged to button rifling. However, you aren't going to find a CHF barrel at this price. Despite what folks say on the internet, button rifling is excellent, especially when combined with a nitrided bore. This barrel will outlast several generations of shooters. In the past, barrel makers have had to add metal to barrels to enhance accuracy and deal with the heat of full-auto torture tests designed by the government. You aren't going to be doing full-auto mag dumps until failure with this barrel. Faxon addresses the accuracy issue with modern metallurgy. So they can produce an accurate barrel that is also thin and lightweight. This brings me back to my original point, which is you can build a sub-eight-pound carbine with this barrel and no other special light-weight parts. Without sights or a magazine, mine weighs 7 pounds 15 ounces.

Got this barrel because I wanted a lightweight AR-10 to use for hunting. While I haven’t hunted with it yet, I can say that it made the rifle extremely handy and it balances very well when I have the suppressor attached. Accuracy has been better than I expected from a pencil barrel as I can easily hit a 7” steel target at 300 yards every time even using cheap wolf steel cased ammo. Couldn’t be happier!
