Love this brake!
Not needing a crush washer or jam nut is a big plus. That feature works really well. I'm not exactly sure how much "braking effect" it actually provides, due to the sleeve design. Maybe it does; it'd be interesting to test it scientifically. However, the holes in the top do keep muzzle rise down. Those holes are also chamfered to make it easier to drill the holes bigger (in case you want more down force). I recently did extensive field testing on my 20" Grendel upper by AR-stoner. I used nothing, a cheap $16 .30 cal brake, a Radical ";zero rise" brake, and a Limb Saver. The Atlas brake with a Limb Saver immediately behind it performed best. I went from 1.5" (nothing on the barrel) to 0.48" with the Atlas and Limb Saver. Sorry, I didn't test without the Limb Saver this time out, but all other combinations didn't come even remotely close to this kind of performance. The only drawback on the Atlas is switching it to another barrel if you don't clean it on a regular basis. Carbon build up locks the sleeve in place. I had to soak it in some Hoppes to get it loose. But, it did come free after 24 hours, so I think I'll probably clean it every so often from now on. At dusk, it looks pretty cool seeing the flame as it goes past each slot on the sides. So that's a bonus, too. I think I had it on my 12.5" BA Grendel when we noticed that. And I just ordered the 7.62 version for my .308 too. I just wish they were a little cheaper.
