Great upper; certainly different from the usual AR-15
I tried this upper on both my AR-9 (chambered in 9mm) and AR-15 (chambered in 5.56NATO) and it worked flawlessly in both. Looks freaking good, easy to charge even as a leftie, and is VERY smooth operating. I have lots of good to say about it; however, I guess others will be more interested in the negatives so here they are: 1. The latching mechanism was designed for a hulk. Even almost fully loosened it's quite tight. This isn't a bad thing unless you're going for a "silent" build. 2. Particularly with my blowback 9mm upper, there is quite a bit of "air" blowing back on you, and the occasional piece of metal/dirt. Highly dependent on your ammo it seems. There was lots of blowback with reloaded ammo, but almost none with Federal Aluminum 115gr 9mm. I don't have a suppressor so I can't say if it will be worse, but my intuition says it would be. 3. Ejection pattern can be described as "making NASA envious of my brass's space flight". Those little suckers get some serious air with this upper at roughly 4 o'clock. 4. I wish it came with a folding handle as this one is quite bulky, but not a big deal in the slightest; just personal preference. Overall, I would recommend it for regular use. Looks cool, gets lots of questions, and is very functional if you're running optics (which I do not have yet).
Nice upper! Interesting too.
It's an interesting design that worked just fine putting it together this past weekend. I bought it mostly for the novelty of it (since I'm mostly left handed) but ended up turning it into my 300AAC BlackOut Pistol. The build came out great but I have yet to test it out. Some things to note for future buyers; 1) No dust cover nor any mounting abitity to add one. 2) No 4ward assist......period! Overall, it appears well crafted and looks AWESOME. It has lines and curves sooo different from your standard AR's. The left side charging handle did it for me. -- Locks tightly 4ward. -- Non - reciprocating charging handle To me, its a beautiful design. Strange not having a dust cover but then again who really needs one? Its open most of the time anyways.
Awesome side charger!
Just recently bought this upper and I love it. I might be bias though, because I do have a thing for side charging ARs. Finish is great and the ergonomics are great as you do not have to take your trigger hand off of your grip to charge it. I like the way they cap off the end where a rear charging handle would go. It keeps gas out of your face and it gives your rifle a different look. It will take a chunk out of your receiver extension though. I'm about to get the PCC version for an AR9 build. I will buy more when I catch them on super sale...those b*+%#@$ are expensive.
c-4 upper
Top quality item without defects or blemishes. I used it for a 350 legend built with an x-caliber barrel and new frontier lower. The fit was perfect and it functioned flawlessly. If you're thinking of going to a side charging platform I recommend the new frontier side charging upper.
