Quality control issues but can be made to work okay
I’ve read positive comments about ETS mags for Glock and decided to try some. I bought a 22, 27, and 40 round magazine in clear plastic for Glocks. Two of the mags had droplets inside that I assume is oil. As far as I know, you don’t want oil where it can possibly get on your primers. I disassembled the mags and cleaned them. Fortunately, ETS magazines are pretty easy to take apart and put back together. Problem 1, oil contamination, solved by cleaning. Problem 2: The 27 round one was pretty rough. I put snap caps and empty cases in it to see how easily it loads. The follower, when pushed down, doesn’t pop back up right away; it hits something. I found some rough plastic edges on inside front of mag housing that were snagging the follower. Removed the plastic flash and problem number 2 is solved. Problem 3: the 27 round mag requires a very deliberate push to get it in the mag well. Also the mag does not drop out when the release button is pressed. The 22 and 40 round mags insert and release just fine. I found high spots on the plastic housing of the 27 round mag, filed and sanded those down, polished the surfaces again (used headlight restoration leftovers), and now mag pops in easily and drops out like it should. I didn’t think it was worth the hassle to try sending the magazine back to ETS for warranty. Based on experience with other customer service operations, I doubt the customer service rep at ETS would understand what I am talking about anyway. I fixed the minor issues myself because I thought that would just be easier. Overall these magazines give you increased capacity at a reasonable price. Just be aware that you might have to do some minor work to basically finish the manufacturing job that ETS is apparently unable to complete consistently. Phot shows, from left to right, ETS 22 round, ETS 27 round, Glock 33 round, and ETS 40 round mags. As you can see, these ETS choices add to your options for having just the right size magazine.
Not bad once you get it working right
Nice looking mag, fits tight in a Glock 19 clone. Had to file it down some and now it works. Jams sometimes. The follower gets cocked or something and doesn’t push up rounds. Photo shows this phenomenon with a snap cap. I loaded the mag full and the last round didn’t come up all the way. Had to poke it with a stick to get it free. This was after fixing the other issues so I guess this mag still needs some work. The extra capacity is nice and it’s in the middle between a 15-17 round mag and the larger 31 or 40 round mags. I think I’ll just get Glock mags in the future. They cost more but are much higher quality and actually work. Sorry, ETS, you need to get into a different business. Pistol magazines are obviously way out of your league.
