Our most popular configuration, the Hybrid contour is a mid-weight barrel that offers a perfect balance between weight and intelligently distributed barrel material for excellent heat absorption and consistent harmonics. This barrel can be easily carried in the field all day but will also provide exceptional performance even under extreme use and high rates of fire.
Headspace (the bolt to barrel fitment), must be checked for optimal performance and reliability. Proper headspace produces consistent chamber pressures and seating depths which results in increased accuracy and reliability, while reducing wear and tear on internal parts and components.

Second times a charm
My first experience with Criterion barrels was a 20" hybrid that in my opinion was over-gassed and required too much tuning to function for my intended purposes. Armed with the assumption that Criterion sizes their gas ports for reliability I decided that the weight savings, promised accuracy and longevity made the barrel worth the cost of an adjustable gas block. Coming off of a SS 18" HBAR profile barrel, the reduction in weight is significant, while maintaining a high standard of accuracy I expect for long range precision rifle matches. With match grade ammo the barrel grouped under an inch after a handful of zeroing shots, and no additional adjustment or tuning was required of the gas system to achieve 3-4 o'clock ejection suppressed or unsuppressed. Overall I am pleased with this barrels performance and look forward to shooting it for years to come.
