Inexpensive sight that's hard to put in
Few things first. I am not a professional gunsmith. That said I have done sight replacement numerous times on various handguns. I use MGW Sight-Pro sight pusher. I have the proper tools, honing stones, good set of punches. In this case I was putting this set on a PSA Dagger slide -- the idea was that the sights shouldn't be more expensive than the slide itself. General observations. This set is steel (magnetic), low profile and it seems to mimic OEM sights general shape. The front sight installation was uneventful - it goes snug into its slot in the slide. The rear sight is purely compression dovetail - this design doesn't use a set screw or a springy shim. The green tritium lamps a visibly thinner (I would say 10% smaller diameter) than your typical "brand name" sight lamps. That instantly makes them appear dimmer. All (front & rear) tritium lamps are surrounded by a well defined white outline (big plus). The installation of the rear is where the bad and ugly sides start to show. With just the finger pressure, the rear will slide in perhaps 1/16 of a inch into the dovetail. Good start but I would like to see it go in much further. Then it only get tighter, much tighter. Upon examination I noticed that the design has the sloping sides meet the bottom horizontal surfaces at a sharp point (acute angle). Many other aftermarket designs will slope at an angle, however just before coming to a point, they will stop and drop straight down. That creates a bit of a flat surface that can be useful for punch placement (or squeezing the sight in a vise if you don't have a real sight pusher). Glock factory rear sights' sides and bottom meet at a sharp point, however there's a small notch that can support the tip of your punch. Here you are left with honing... I don't really want to widen the slide's dovetail... The easiest to stone would be the front (away from the shooter) of the sight. However you will end up needing to refinish (blacken) that surface. Long story short... Inexpensive sight that's hard to put in. With the amount of extra effort, you might as well spend a bit more and save yourself all the grief.
